The chapters within The Heart of the Matter present experiences of the central players in much teacher education reform; it makes available to readers elements of the newer, enthusiastic teacher educators. Good teaching is at the heart of these professors’ practice – it is their passion. In heart-felt portrayals of experience in the academy the contributing authors of this volume seek to lay bare some of the pervasive issues facing teacher educators who seek to make a difference within their institutions and within the field. With the intention of creating a discourse between teacher education faculty and administrators of schools and faculties of education about matters of reform, several deans of education contribute responses to the writings of these untenured professors.
