Our Publishing Program
We are looking for books that present alternatives to dominant ways of doing things – whether about researching and inquiring, teaching and schools, learners and learning, care and caregiving, understanding the roles of animal companions, relating to the natural world, shaping and transforming communities,
While many of our books are written by and for scholars and academics, and often serve as university course texts and reference works, we seek to produce books that have broad appeal. Such appeal comes about in part because these books are written in accessible styles and are grounded in Canadian contexts.
If you have an idea for a book (or a completed manuscript) that fits within our publishing mandate please send us a letter of inquiry and proposal. Apart from edited books we prefer authored books to have a published length not exceeding 220 pages. Normally we do not accept unsolicited manuscripts unless a short letter of inquiry is first made.
Letter of Inquiry
The letter should briefly mention the focus and rationale for the book, its potential audience, and it should provide a sense of who you are and why you are the person to write this book. Depending on our response to your inquiry you should complete a proposal. Letters of inquiry can be forwarded by electronic mail to: firstname.lastname@example.org
After an inquiry, and an affirmative response, the next step is to develop a proposal of several pages – no more than five – in which you: identify the audience and the possibilities of the book’s use; articulate the focus, rationale and contribution of the book; develop a narrative outline of the heart of the book; provide a sample section or chapter; make an estimation of the book’s length (word count and number of 8.5 by 11 inch pages or A4 size containing double spaced, 12 point font); suggest a timeline for completion; declare your intentions regarding seeking other publishers; provide an extension of your biographical information to about 75 words as requested in the letter of inquiry; and, send us a hard copy and an electronic copy. All author contact information should be contained within the proposal. Book proposals will not be returned.
Submission of Proposal
Submit both a hard copy of the proposal and an electronic version to:
